Sunday May 30, The Most Holy Trinity

Gospel of Matthew 28:16–20

Baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them. When they all saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted. Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

In today’s Gospel, Jesus invites his disciples to make concrete his love in the world – In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

On this Feast day of the Holy Trinity I ponder another disciple – Mary Ward, and her intimate knowledge of God she names ‘Parent of Parent, Friend of Friends.

I also ponder the tradition that ‘Jesus’ was the very first word Mary Ward uttered. There was no doubt she loved him intimately.

Thirdly, I wonder about the Spirit of Peace, Justice, Sincerity, Freedom and Felicity that characterises her spirituality.

Mary Ward’s deep truth (verity) was an experience of a God who is ‘with us always’, so I feel drawn to pray….

In the name of our ‘Parent of Parents, Friend of Friends’, and of Jesus, and of the Spirit of Peace we pray for all those who are at war in our troubled world.

In the name of our ‘Parent of Parents, Friend of Friends, and of Jesus, and of the Spirit of Justice we pray for reconciliation in our country.

In the name of our ‘Parent of Parents, Friend of Friends, and of Jesus, and of the Spirit of Sincerity we pray that our leaders listen, respond and work with integrity to build a better world.

In the name of our ‘Parent of Parents, Friend of Friends, and of Jesus, and of the Spirit of Freedom we pray for asylum seekers and refugees throughout our country and the world.

In the name of our ‘Parent of Parents, Friend of Friends, and of Jesus, and of the Spirit of Felicity we pray for all our children that they may experience joy in relationships and creation and be led by joy throughout their lives.

Jesus say Amen!
